CULTURE NEWS

  • 2026 will feature 13 full moons, four eclipses and many meteor showers that locals may enjoy. Stargazers can visit Ohio’s dark sky sites such as Geauga Observatory Park (Montville Township) or Fry Family Park near Canton.  Record-Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new temporary roundabout opened at the intersection of East Main Street and Horning Road north of campus on Jan. 8 as part of the $26 million road project set to reconfigure traffic patterns through spring (ensuring continued access to nearby buildings).  Kent State Today
  • PUCO approved a settlement on Jan. 8 that ends House Bill 6 cases against FirstEnergy. The deal returns nearly $276 million to customers over three billing periods + allocates $20 million for low-income programs while a review sets refund timing.  Record-Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Streetsboro Rockets won the Portage County Wrestling Tournament at James A. Garfield High School last Saturday, earning five titles and 227 points — their first win since 2009. They will compete in the Brad Bauer Tournament at Ravenna High School this Saturday at 9 a.m.  Weekly Villager
