  • A barn fire destroyed the Shalersville Twp barn at 8362 Peck Road on Jan. 28 at 8:12 a.m., where firefighters rescued 12 cows but 4 pigs died & no one was injured.  Record-Courier

  • Kent State University earned national recognition in U.S. News Best Online Programs rankings, with three online graduate programs among the top 100 nationally (including Nursing, Education, and Business).   • With subzero temperatures expected after Winter Storm Fern, residents are advised to avoid leaving items like liquids, cell phones, medications, and even musical instruments in cars since the cold can damage them (and increase hypothermia risks for children, older adults, and pets).  Record-Courier
