  • The Silver Creek Garden Club invites residents to learn about gardening at its monthly program on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Room at the Library, where the featured speaker will explain how to plan a cutting flower garden.  Weekly Villager

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cardinal students achieved high marks at Madison High School on Jan. 17 at the OMEA District 7 Solo & Ensemble competition where five soloists received top ratings and a first-ever saxophone ensemble earned a strong score, with director Frank Sanzo praising growing participation.  Weekly Villager

FINANCE NEWS

  • 7 17 Credit Union will merge with Geauga Credit Union on April 1, 2026 (after receiving regulatory approval to absorb $108 million in assets) to add new branches in Streetsboro and Stow and expand services in Northeast Ohio.  Weekly Villager

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tax scams are rising as the BBB warns Kent residents to look out for fake refund claims and urgent messages asking for personal details; the IRS says it will only send written letters before contacting you and advises reporting any suspicious calls (verify contacts with official sources).  Record-Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Berkshire Badgers fell 61-55 last Friday in Burton after Geneva erased an 11-point lead with a 26-point fourth quarter. Coach Joe Montanero said the team will work on its offense ahead of the regular season finale against Cornerstone Christian Academy on Friday (6:15 p.m.).  Weekly Villager
  • Southeast boys basketball earned its first league title since 2012 with a 79-61 win over Garfield on Feb. 20. The Pirates overcame recent setbacks with 13 three-pointers, led by Cohen Richardson’s 24 points and key plays from Joe Sharish and Bradley Dillon (joining a supportive local crowd).  Record-Courier
  • The Garfield G-Men girls’ bowling team won the MVAC Grey Tier championship last Saturday at Skylane Bowling Alley in Garrettsville with 3371 pins and will play for a state berth at 10 a.m. Saturday; the boys finished fourth last Friday, and Coach Moore expects improvements next season (varsity starters return).  Weekly Villager
  • CJ Conrad, who helped improve Kent State's football with three touchdown returns in 2025, left his role last Friday and will join the Dolphins as an offensive assistant. The move was confirmed Feb. 20.  Record-Courier
