CULTURE NEWS

  • Kent State University School of Theatre and Dance launched the musical 'Something Rotten' at the E. Turner Stump Theatre on Feb. 20, with performances running until Mar. 1. A Shakespeare-themed production called 'The Book of Will' is set to run from Apr. 17-26 at the Wright-Curtis Theatre.  Kent State Today
  • Registration is now open for the first-ever Poets for Science Gathering at Kent State University, scheduled for Nov. 12-14. Poets, scientists, and community members can submit proposals for breakout sessions (including readings and panels) to explore how science inspires poetry.  Kent State Today

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Seventeen top spellers competed at James A. Garfield Middle School on Feb. 14 in Portage County, with winners earning a spot at the county-wide event. Five finalists will advance to the Akron Regional Spelling Bee on Sunday, March 15 at 1:30 p.m. at the Akron Public Library.  Weekly Villager
  • Job seekers and students can visit the Career Exploration Open House at Kent State University-Geauga campus (14111 Claridon Troy Road) on March 3, 2026, from 5-7 p.m. Local employers will offer resume help, networking, and free Chipotle food with reservations for up to five tickets per person.  Weekly Villager

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Randolph Road in Suffield Township reopened Feb. 26 between Sunnybrook and Lansinger roads after downed power lines forced its closure on Feb. 25, officials said.  Record-Courier

  • Kent State senior Delrecco Gillespie was featured in an NCAA article detailing how personal loss and a knee injury drove him to set a Division I record by reaching 20 double-doubles this season (the previous record was 17).
