COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank launched its 35th Harvest for Hunger Campaign Feb. 27 at the John S. Knight Center, aiming to provide the equivalent of 4.8 million meals and $1.6 million in cash donations to its eight-county area. Food insecurity reached record levels in 2025.  Record-Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Ohio Wildlife Council will review proposals to restrict grouse hunting, limiting access outside designated areas in response to a rapid decline in the bird’s population. The proposals also include updates to deer, waterfowl and turkey seasons for the upcoming 2026-27 season.  Record-Courier
  • Kent residents will spring forward at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 8, when clocks jump ahead one hour (daylight saving time begins) while officials continue to urge Congress to consider making the change permanent.  Record-Courier

HEALTH NEWS

  • Northeast Ohio hospitals are using artificial intelligence to read scans and alert doctors to high-risk patients — institutions such as Summa Health, University Hospitals, and Cleveland Clinic work with tech firms like Aidoc to customize workflows and train staff.  Record-Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • Northeast Ohio high school wrestlers competed in 18 sectional tournaments on Feb. 28, winning team titles and qualifying for district competition in Division I, II and III events from the Akron/Canton area.  Record-Courier
  • On Feb. 28, Portage County high school wrestlers advanced to district competition after local teams led by Crestwood, Rootstown, and Southeast won seven weight classes at sectionals; teams from Aurora, Streetsboro, Roosevelt, and Ravenna also clinched key spots (detailed qualifiers available).  Record-Courier
