At the Akron Public Library on Saturday, March 15th, the 96th Akron Beacon Journal Regional Spelling Bee took place with finalists including Benjamin Hovancsek of Chimney Swift Homeschool in Kent, Zach Yeager of Chippewa Jr/Sr High, and Sophia Lambert of Heritage Christian Academy (photos showed the intense final rounds). Trophies were awarded after participants competed in a demanding test of spelling skills.

Rootstown lost 65 to 46 to Columbus Grove in the first girls basketball state championship game in Portage County — the team said playing with their best friends made the tough loss feel like a win.
