COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Diocesan Presbyteral Council approved merging St. Patrick, Immaculate Conception, and Newman Center to form Saint Katharine Drexel, effective July 1. The three houses of worship will remain at their locations (the parish office stays at the Newman Center).  Record-Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rwandan Minister of Health Sabin Nsanzimana visited Kent State on March 12 to meet with administrators and 63 Rwandan students. Kent State's Office of Global Education (organizer of the Cultural Cafe) will host a Rwanda-themed event on Mar. 25 from noon to 1:30 at the Student Center Ballroom Balcony.  Kent State Today

SPORTS NEWS

  • Kent State senior forward Delrecco Gillespie earned first team all-district honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches on March 23. He led the nation with 23 double-doubles while averaging 17.7 points and 11.3 rebounds last season.  Record-Courier
  • Local high school girls basketball players Mandy Cardinal and Colbie Curall earned all-state honors when 11 area players were recognized on March 23 with the release of Division IV-VII teams; Cardinal will play at Ursuline College and Curall will join John Carroll University.  Record-Courier
