GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Taxpayers have until Apr. 15 to file their 2025 returns as the IRS processes most refunds electronically (mailed returns may take longer) and updated tax rules could affect refund amounts; Kent residents should check their status online.  Record-Courier

HEALTH NEWS

  • Trader Joe's is recalling nearly 10 million pounds of frozen foods (including vegetable and chicken fried rice) because glass was found in carrots. Local stores should check items with best-by dates from Feb. 28 to Nov. 19 and return or discard affected products per FDA guidelines.  Record-Courier
  • Dr. Ezra Ameis, a local veterinarian, advises pet owners to manage pet allergies with antihistamines (like Benadryl and Zyrtec), anti-itch shampoos, regular wipes and HEPA air purifiers during allergy season.  Record-Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • Kent State football's 2026 schedule features an opening game at South Carolina on Sept. 5, a matchup at Ohio State on Sept. 19, and a rivalry contest against Akron on Oct. 24, marking the first meeting with Ohio State since 2014 and a Saturday game with Akron since 2022.  Record-Courier
  • The Ohio Prep Sports Media Association released the 2026 All-Ohio high school girls basketball teams for Divisions I-III on Tuesday, March 24 (including top candidate Whitney Stafford, Player of the Year).
