  • Garrettsville SummerFest marks its 20th anniversary and will upgrade its aging electrical system when donations meet the $20,000 goal. The festival plans to boost capacity and safety to support growing attendance at the event grounds.  Weekly Villager

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kent State University was honored with NASPA Gold Excellence Awards, earning the Grand Gold for its CommUNITY Lab and the Grand Silver for its Summer Advantage Program, which reflect the university's strong support for students.  Kent State Today
  • The Aspire GED program offers adult classes with monthly gift card drawings at Maplewood Career Center (classes at 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.), Opportunity Resource Center (9:30 to 11:30 a.m.), and Kent Free Library (Monday and Wednesday classes at 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.).  Weekly Villager

SPORTS NEWS

  • Streetsboro alum Naomi Benson entered the NCAA transfer portal after her freshman season at the University of Illinois. She played 21 games and has three years of eligibility left after earning Ohio Division IV Player of the Year honors in high school.  Record-Courier
  • The Garfield G-Men baseball team will play Mineral Ridge today at 11 a.m. on the road as senior upperclassmen take on significant varsity roles for the first time under coach Michael Paes. Starter Garet Warnick will lead the pitching rotation, succeeding last season’s ace.  Weekly Villager
