ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Akron remain near $3.96 per gallon, but a recent U.S.-Iran ceasefire has eased oil prices — potentially leading to lower costs over the next one or two weeks. Local drivers may soon see relief at the pump.  Record-Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Portage County voters will decide on a $5.4 million levy for Streetsboro City Schools on May 5 to preserve junior varsity sports and several extracurricular clubs; if it fails, more cuts will affect programs for the upcoming school year.  News 5 Cleveland

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On April 8, the EPA proposed redesignating Northeast Ohio’s air quality status to attainment, which could end the E-Check vehicle tests that have been required since 1996. Gov. DeWine and local lawmakers say the move benefits public health (reflecting decades of coordinated improvements) and supports economic growth.  Record-Courier

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kent State University is set to expand student healthcare at its DeWeese Health Center with Northeast Ohio Medical University’s three-year partnership beginning July 1. Full- and part-time students will pay a fee each semester for primary care, mental health, and digital record access during the center’s $3 million renovation.  Record-Courier
