Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 19th of April.
Good morning, Kent.
🏘️ Community
Dan Flowers (with nearly 30 years in food banking) was named the 2025 John van Hengel Fellow by Feeding America during a conference in Atlanta in April.
He has led Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank for two decades and expanded food access across local counties (the bank now serves 630 hunger-relief programs) while he will speak at next year's conference.
🚨 Crime
The Portage County Sheriff’s Office warned residents about a jury duty text scam that claims a $6,000 fee and directs people to pay at a gas station—no law enforcement agency texts or calls for such payments.
They urged everyone to share the alert with those who may not use social media.
