ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hummingbirds are returning to Ohio this spring from Mexico and Central America. A local report (from citizen spotters) shows sightings across the state, so residents can wash feeders and prepare homemade nectar to attract ruby-throated and rufous hummingbirds.  Record-Courier
  • Kent State's annual prairie burn has been postponed to April 24 after heavy rain and failed ignition attempts; the controlled burn (aimed at reducing invasive plants) is set near the Beverly J. Warren Student Recreation and Wellness Center (a campus facility).  Kent State Today
  • According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, bobcats are native and thriving in the state with over 500 sightings recorded in recent years. Wildlife experts advise residents to keep a safe distance if they encounter one in the wild + report sightings to the DNR.  Record-Courier

  • Kent State basketball lost two starting players this week as guard Jahari Williamson committed to Pepperdine and point guard Cian Medley to East Carolina. Williamson averaged 10.3 points per game & Medley set a single-season assist record before leaving the team.  Record-Courier
