EDUCATION NEWS

  • Applications for the Zach Peterson Memorial Scholarship are open for high school sophomores at James A. Garfield, Windham and Crestwood who plan to enroll at Maplewood Career Center in trades like Auto Service, Auto Collision or Power Equipment Mechanics for the 2026 to 2027 school year.   • Maplewood Career Center electrical students began laying 220-volt power lines under Windham Township Hall to wire a new street clock and gazebo that will also power food trucks on the township green. The project started on April 6 and is set to finish by the week of April 20.  Weekly Villager

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Ecologically minded Golden Flashes and community members celebrated Earth Day at Earth Fest on Kent State University's Risman Plaza, where students and local groups hosted interactive activities and giveaways. The Herrick Conservatory will hold its Annual Plant Sale next week from Apr. 27 to May 1.  Kent State Today

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Cavaliers hold a 2–0 series lead and will play Game 3 in Toronto, where analysts say Mitchell and Harden boost their offense while Toronto must control turnovers to spark a comeback.  Record-Courier
  • Ohio has split its turkey season into two zones to match nesting times. Youth hunters in the south zone checked 1,941 birds on April 18 and 19, and the full spring season will start in the south on April 25 and in the northeast on May 2.  Record-Courier
