CULTURE NEWS

  • Kent State University will hold commemorative events from May 1 through May 4 for the May 4 remembrance. The schedule includes a student art exhibition, Neil Young tribute, Alan Canfora Collection debut with film screening, and a campus ceremony.  Record-Courier

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Motorists in the Akron area experienced rising gas prices as AAA reported that on April 29, Summit County averaged $4.24 per gallon. Some stations — including one in Boston Heights — are now offering rates as low as $3.89 per gallon.  Record-Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • College students from local and national universities showcased innovative medical devices at NEOMED’s sixth NEOvations Bench to Bedside competition on April 22. They advanced prototypes before judges + investors to meet healthcare needs.  Record-Courier

HEALTH NEWS

  • The CDC reported that 34 people became sick from salmonella linked to backyard poultry on April 29, with 13 hospitalized and 5 cases in Ohio. Kent residents handling poultry are urged to wash hands thoroughly to prevent infection.  Record-Courier

  • Kent State football announced former Browns return man Josh Cribbs joins coach Mark Carney’s staff as the new special teams analyst — he brings a wealth of experience from his time as a student-athlete and NFL player, with the move confirmed on Wednesday, April 29.  Record-Courier
