- ➤ Local cleaning business owner Jennifer Fitzwater will speak at West Main Street Winery (234 W. Main Street) in Ravenna on May 11 at 6 p.m. to share her expertise on environmental hygiene; she has four additional talks scheduled across Portage County. Weekly Villager
- ➤ Kent State University began its spring commencement season with nearly 5,000 advanced degrees planned. The first ceremony took place on May 7 (at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center) and more ceremonies will occur today and on May 15. Kent State Today
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Giant Eagle recalled roasted turkey products on May 8 after a routine inspection found potential metal fragments, though no illnesses were reported. Customers who bought turkey items since April 28 should toss them and return their receipts at their nearest store for a refund. Record-Courier
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Jim Wiedie was named Hiram Terriers' new women's basketball coach on April 3. The 35-year coaching veteran and Kent State alum returns after four years away and aims to improve the team’s record (312 wins in his career). Weekly Villager
- ➤ Last Saturday, the Crestwood Red Devils rallied in the seventh inning at Mentor High School but lost 3-1 in a pitching duel.
