  • Main Street Kent will host its first 'Talk of the Town' walking tour at 11 a.m. May 17 along a 1.25-mile route that starts at the Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center, goes past part of the Portage Hike and Bike Trail with a stop at The KENT Sign, and ends at Acorn Alley. The free tour is wheelchair accessible — it will continue on June 21, July 19, and Aug. 16 and offers a look at local shops, restaurants, art, and history.  Record-Courier

CRIME NEWS

  • On May 7, Portage deputies stopped Akron man Reginald L. Jones in Brimfield Township for an equipment violation and, after his inconsistent story led to a search that found nearly a pound of suspected meth along with fentanyl and cocaine, he was indicted on multiple felony and misdemeanor drug charges — his arraignment on May 12 resulted in a $750,000 bond — further details of the case are pending.  Record-Courier
  • A Portage County grand jury indicted Richard J. Lewis, 42—of Euclid on charges of failing to obey a police order, obstructing official business, and resisting arrest after he fled an equipment violation stop and crashed his vehicle in Mantua on May 12.  Record-Courier
