- ➤ Memorial Day weekend in Portage County will feature parades, ceremonies and grave tending for fallen military members on May 25 and May 26. In Kent, American Legion Post 496 will hold a parade that starts with a ceremony on the Main Street Bridge at 10 a.m. on May 26 and moves to Standing Rock Cemetery after participants submit their insurance applications by May 24. - ➤ Bert, an orange/white cat with an injured shoulder and a bite wound, was brought to a Good Samaritans property and taken to a vet where his wound was flushed (and he received an antibiotic injection) to prevent infection.
