  • Today, Kent's Muslim community celebrates Eid al-Adha with early prayers and local gatherings, honoring the tradition of Prophet Abraham's sacrifice. Local families will share traditional meals (like special curries and rice dishes) as they exchange greetings and festive wishes.  Record-Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Suffield Township Fire Chief Bob Rasnick will retire on June 30 after 47 years of service, including 42 as chief; trustees are using the Ohio Fire Chiefs Association to vet candidates and plan to name a replacement by June 15 (he will also serve as Memorial Day parade grand marshal).  Record-Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • Winking Lizard Tavern was named the best sports bar in the nation by USA TODAY Sports Readers' Choice Awards on May 26, beating well-known chains and affirming its fan favorite status. The regional chain operates 15 spots across Northeast Ohio (one is in Columbus).  Record-Courier
  • Local high school sports gave teams key wins this week. Mogadore beat East Palestine 9-1 Tuesday and will face Lake Center Christian today (Division VI Northeast 2), while Aurora, Hoban, and Marlington won their semifinals and will play district title games on May 28.  Record-Courier
