  • Yesterday Akron-Canton Airport announced its three-year strategic plan to upgrade its infrastructure, improve computer systems, and add more flights—steps that include fixing the runway and planning a new taller control tower—meant to boost service and keep costs low.  FOX8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On May 28, the Ohio House passed a bill that would require free tampons, pads, and daily showers for incarcerated women during menstruation—lawmakers said the measure supports dignity and public health. The bill now awaits Senate review.  Record-Courier
  • State representatives Bill Roemer and Steve Demetriou have introduced a bill to ease Ohio’s E-Check program by extending the exemption for newer cars and allowing an alternative emissions certificate—state regulators are accepting public comments until June 2 before sending the proposal to the U.S. EPA for final review.  FOX8

HEALTH NEWS

  • Eighteen-year-old Lexy Eddy felt numb and weak at work in Portage County after school, and a friend’s Snapchat alert led her co-worker to call 911 so doctors could treat her stroke; she is recovering after TPA treatment and will have surgery in June to repair a heart defect — she will graduate high school today.  FOX8
  • Planet Fitness will offer free summer gym memberships for high school students aged 14 to 19 at its Northeast Ohio clubs. The offer (June 1 through Aug. 31) includes free use of facilities and fitness classes, and minors must register with a parent or guardian.  FOX8
