  • Hundreds of residents met Friday at a Shalersville warehouse to review Bitdeer's plan to build a data center on a 257-acre site near the Ohio Turnpike (proposing 15 buildings over five years). A public meeting with township trustees is set for June 16 at 5:30 p.m.  News 5 Cleveland
  • United Way of Portage County held its fifth Community Partner Bus Tour on Friday, May 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The free tour departed from 999 E. Main Street (Ravenna) and stopped at partner agencies to highlight local needs and services.  Weekly Villager

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On May 27, at Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown, the Portage Development Board honored 16 businesses that invested $118 million in 2025 (creating 821 new jobs and retaining 812 positions) and generated a $108 million annual payroll to support growth in Portage County.  Record-Courier

  • Triple Trail Fest returns to Mantua on Saturday, June 6 following the Headwaters Adventure Race, offering hiking, biking, paddling, food trucks, live music, a rubber duck race and craft beer tasting along scenic trails and waterways.  Weekly Villager

  • Portage County Job and Family Services announced the 2026 Back-to-School Clothing Voucher Program which gives $175 vouchers per child for eligible families receiving SNAP or TANF — applications open from June 22 to July 31 at the OhioMeansJobs Center in Ravenna.  Weekly Villager

  • Kent’s Davey Tree Expert Co. is hosting a free three-day North American Tree Climbing Competition that began on May 15 with 71 climbers from Canada, the United States and Mexico in qualifying rounds — spectators enjoy food trucks as they watch events today at the SEED Campus and tomorrow.  Record-Courier
