Good morning, Kent. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 21st of June.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers proposed a budget that will remove sales tax exemptions on items such as newspapers and jukebox plays, a change projected to raise $312 million over two years to support a $1.1 billion tax cut for higher earners. State lawmakers are working to finalize the plan for Gov. DeWine before June 30 while newspaper leaders argue the change could raise production costs — the proposal is still under debate.  Record-Courier
  • Portage County families receiving SNAP or TANF benefits can apply for a $150 voucher per child for school clothes and shoes starting June 23 — applications are available at Ravenna’s OhioMeansJobs Center or the Job & Family Services office — and approved vouchers must be redeemed before Sept. 30.  Record-Courier
