  • Six Flags Entertainment announced that Maryland’s Six Flags America will close at the end of this season and California’s Great America will close after 2027 while stating no additional park closures are planned.   • The Kent State University Museum is celebrating its 40th anniversary with an exhibition titled 'Sparkle: The Style and Jewelry of Aileen Mehle' that shows evening dresses and vintage jewelry in the historic Higbee Gallery. The exhibit opened on July 18 and will run through Aug. 23 — a public opening reception was held at 5 p.m. on July 17.  Kent State Today

  • Crestwood and Maplewood Career Center graduate Ethan Thompson won the 2025 SkillsUSA National Championship in industrial motor control on June 27 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. He earned free tools and a guaranteed interview with Schindler Elevator in Cleveland—Thompson credited his teacher Joe Svonavec for his strong preparation during a challenging two-day competition.  Weekly Villager
