- ➤ Kent State University launched its Athletics Excellence Funds on July 21 to directly pay Golden Flashes athletes for their name, image and likeness rights — a move aimed at supporting sports recruiting and retention. Athletic Director Randale L. Richmond said the funds will help programs like football, baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, and wrestling — a step to slow talent loss from transfers.
