  • Kent State University’s Porthouse Theatre began at Blossom Music Center in 1969 when a partnership with the Cleveland Orchestra and early donors led to productions in a tent that evolved into a permanent open-air venue in 1971—serving both as an entertainment spot and a training ground for student artists who have helped draw nearly 400,000 patrons over the years.  Record-Courier

HEALTH NEWS

  • Rich's Ice Cream Co. is recalling over 110,000 ice cream bars due to a potential listeria risk, the FDA announced on July 17. The recall covers lots 24351 through 25156 sold in 23 states + may affect local consumers, and those with the product should seek further details from the company.  Record-Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • Kent State University launched its Athletics Excellence Funds on July 21 to directly pay Golden Flashes athletes for their name, image and likeness rights — a move aimed at supporting sports recruiting and retention. Athletic Director Randale L. Richmond said the funds will help programs like football, baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, and wrestling — a step to slow talent loss from transfers.  Record-Courier
