The Windham community will host a car parade on Saturday at 12 p.m. along State Route 303 to support 16-year-old Cairo Svanovec, a Garfield High student who has battled stage four adenocarcinoma for two years.

Participants will decorate their cars—adding artistic touches—and join a raffle of donated items—such as prints of Cairo's photography—to help raise funds for her ongoing medical expenses.

The Mathematical Sciences Building was closed Wednesday after an overnight fire started by a transformer in the basement—six local fire departments responded and no one was hurt.

A fire damaged Kent State’s Mathematical Sciences Building on July 29 and led to its closure on July 30 for repairs—no injuries were reported.

Kent Fire Capt. Jeff Tyler said responders first thought it was a generator fire—officials later confirmed the blaze came from a transformer.
