Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 18th of August.
Good morning, Kent.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has used task forces to address tough state problems since 2019 by appointing 24 groups to study issues like school bus safety, nursing home conditions, property tax reform, and SNAP benefits.
Some groups have led to changes such as plans to close larger youth prisons and proposals to limit sugary drink purchases—steps that may affect future state policy.
Portage County groups will host overdose awareness events in late August at Streetsboro City Park and Ravenna City Park of Dreams.
The Streetsboro event on Aug. 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. will offer Narcan training, recovery support, and free food+raffle baskets while the Ravenna event on Aug. 31 at 2 p.m. will include remembrance activities, a resource fair, and Naloxone distribution+hygiene bags.
