- ➤ The Portage County Randolph Fair opened Aug. 19—where Daisy Zinz was crowned junior queen and Kendrick Campbell was crowned junior king—and was dedicated to late board member Donald May; the 167th fair runs through Aug. 24 and will feature events like a demolition derby at 7:30 p.m. today. - ➤ A Tennessee hiker died after picking up a timber rattlesnake on a trail, and officials say Ohio has timber rattlesnakes, copperheads, and massasauga rattlesnakes that rarely bite but help control pests—residents are urged to clear brush and debris from around homes to reduce encounters. - ➤ Historic Sunbeau Valley Farm, known for hosting the Ravenna Balloon A-Fair for decades, will be auctioned on Sept. 5 in Ravenna Township. The auction, run by Kiko Auctions, opens at 10:30 a.m. (bidding starts at 11 a.m.) and the annual Balloon A-Fair will move to the Portage County Randolph Fairgrounds (4215 Fairground Road) from Sept. 25-28.
