- ➤ At the Randolph Fair in Portage today, animal auctions include a hog auction at 9:30 a.m., a goat and lamb auction at 3 p.m., and a steer auction at 7 p.m.—a wood carvings auction and a Tractor and Truck Pull in the grandstand also add to the schedule. Rides are available from noon to 11 today while more attractions continue tomorrow. Record-Courier
- ➤ Portage County Animal Protective League said Dino, a 19 pound puppy found abandoned and malnourished at a Turnpike plaza on Aug. 11, is now staying with a foster family. The organization is asking for donations and information to help treat his injured leg — camera footage did not reveal who dropped him off. Record-Courier

- ➤ Northeast Ohio Medical University launched Ohio’s third dental college on Aug 22 in Rootstown—52 students in the Class of 2029 attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel present. The college, named in honor of the Bitonte family for their $10 million gift, will train dentists to address the region's oral health needs. Record-Courier

- ➤ A 13-pound fisher—the largest ever collected in Ohio—was found as roadkill near Kent State University in April 2024, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources is studying it to learn more about the species' comeback. Record-Courier
