  • Haymaker Farmers’ Market unveiled its largest mural in Portage County on Franklin Avenue on Aug 23—drawing about 1,600 guests during a ribbon-cutting event that celebrated the market’s 30th anniversary with the Haymaker Community Poem. The market will continue its weekly events and will host a Tap Talk presentation in spring to explain how the mural connects to Kent's history.  Record-Courier

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Diamond woman died early Aug. 30 in a single-vehicle crash on State Route 44 in Ravenna Township between Lake Rockwell and Dawley roads—making it the sixth fatal crash on Portage County roads in August.  Record-Courier

HEALTH NEWS

  • University Hospitals Portage Medical Center will give away free naloxone and fentanyl test strips at its cafeteria from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 3 to mark International Overdose Awareness Day—first responders and the EMS Institute are teaming up to help lower overdose risks.  Record-Courier

  • Kent State linebacker CJ Young played a key role as his team defeated Merrimack in the season opener—he reflected on his performance in a video.  Record-Courier
  • Kent State football player Cade Wolford switched from running back to slot receiver and scored two touchdowns in the season-opening win over Merrimack, and he explained his new role on video.  Record-Courier
  • Kent State interim football coach Mark Carney won his debut by leading the Golden Flashes to a victory that snapped a 21-game losing streak — he shared his thoughts in a video.  Record-Courier
