- ➤ Costco launched a new benefit on September 2 that lets executive members shop at 9 a.m. on weekdays, one hour before other members. The perk is part of the $130 executive membership that also offers cash back & travel benefits. Record-Courier
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State Route 44 in Rootstown will close for roughly two weeks beginning Sept. 8 for two culvert replacements just south of Tallmadge Road, and drivers will follow a detour via I-76 eastbound + State Route 14 to U.S. 224 to State Route 44. Record-Courier
- ➤ Joseph Bica, elected Portage treasurer in November 2024, took his oath on Aug.21 (administered by Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose). He will begin his official duties on Sept.2 as the Administration Building reopens after the Labor Day holiday. Record-Courier
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Penn State remains at the top in the USA TODAY Sports NCAA re-rank after Week 1 and Ohio State moved up to No. 3 after beating Texas. Kent State left last place after beating Merrimack — several other teams saw major ranking shifts in the college football standings. Record-Courier
- ➤ During the week of September 1, Portage County high school sports saw Rootstown boys soccer rally to win 8—1 over Crestwood and the volleyball team secure a five—set victory over Warren JFK. In golf, Rootstown’s boys posted a score of 174 against Waterloo’s 195 while in girls golf Copley edged Rootstown 173—177 with Anna Drago earning medalist honors by scoring a personal-best 39.
