- ➤ Kent’s Art in the Park returns Sept. 6-7 at Fred Fuller Park with over 100 artisans + 11 food vendors offering crafts and food. The festival will have entertainment on two stages, art demonstrations, contests for young artists and a silent auction to support local art programs. Record-Courier

- ➤ The Portage County District Library is hosting a photo contest that asks pet owners to submit literary-themed photos for the 2026 Pet Calendar; entries must be emailed ([email protected]) by October 1. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Ellen Engleman Conners visited Kent State University to explore her great-grandfather President Engleman's legacy by viewing his portrait in the University Library and reviewing archival records. She then toured historic sites such as Engleman Hall and the campus airport — meeting faculty and staff who shared insights about the school’s past. Kent State Today
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The pawpaw tree (Ohio's official native fruit tree) grows widely along moist creek banks and produces fruit with a flavor similar to banana, mango, and pineapple. The fruit ripens from late August through October and young trees need a shaded spot to grow (experts recommend proper planting techniques). Record-Courier
