The Zach Peterson Memorial Car Show was held on Labor Day at Nelson Ledges Race Track where thousands celebrated cars, community, and Zach Peterson’s legacy while scholarships were awarded to local students.
Organizers reported that the successful event—featuring classic vehicles, family activities, and a popular raffle—will return in 2026 to further honor his memory.
🚨 Crime
A Detroit man, Jalen D.
Davis, 26, was charged with felony drug trafficking after Portage County deputies stopped his eastbound vehicle on Sept. 3 near Windham, found nearly 8 ounces of meth after a K+9 alert, and booked him at 5:45 p.m. with hearings scheduled on Sept. 5 and Sept. 12.
🎓 Education
LaTaesia Snyder, a junior in criminology and justice studies with a pre-law minor from Akron, began her fall semester in the KSU Columbus Program in State Issues.
She gained insights from programs abroad and ride-alongs with local police — experiences that earned her scholarships and moved her closer to her goal of becoming a lawyer who advocates for others.
🏥 Health
The FDA announced a recall for frozen shrimp—sold at Kroger and Walmart in over 30 states including Kent—due to possible Cesium-137 contamination.
Consumers should return the shrimp for a full refund as no illnesses had been reported as of Sept. 4.
🏈 Sports
Streetsboro Rockets beat Kent Roosevelt 42—7 last Friday at Roosevelt Stadium in Kent as they revived the old Battle of Diagonal Road rivalry with a strong rushing attack led by Janiere Cook who gained 160 yards and scored three touchdowns.
The Rockets will host Alliance at Quinn Field at 7 p.m. on Friday.
