- ➤ Kent State’s Herrick Aquatic Ecosystem Research Facility served as a training ground in the summer for 172 undergraduates in the SURE program, where senior Nick Brocato and sophomore Tamera Owens researched how wetlands remove chemicals like nitrogen and phosphorus. - ➤ The League of Women Voters of Northern Portage County will host three Meet the Candidates nights for board of education and local offices starting Sept. 24 to let candidates share one-minute statements and answer five questions before meeting voters—forum sites include Garrettsville's Klamer Center, Mantua's Crestwood Central Office Building, and Aurora's Kohanski Center.
