EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kent State’s Herrick Aquatic Ecosystem Research Facility served as a training ground in the summer for 172 undergraduates in the SURE program, where senior Nick Brocato and sophomore Tamera Owens researched how wetlands remove chemicals like nitrogen and phosphorus. The university also earned R1 research status — placing it among a select group of top research institutions in Ohio.  Kent State Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The League of Women Voters of Northern Portage County will host three Meet the Candidates nights for board of education and local offices starting Sept. 24 to let candidates share one-minute statements and answer five questions before meeting voters—forum sites include Garrettsville's Klamer Center, Mantua's Crestwood Central Office Building, and Aurora's Kohanski Center. Voter registration stays open until Oct. 6 with election day set for Nov. 4.  Record-Courier
