- ➤ PetCo is planning to close stores this year as part of a transformation plan — no Ohio or Kentucky locations have closed so far. The company has already shuttered 13 stores in 2025 and is reviewing its footprint after considering bankruptcy. Record-Courier

- ➤ Mogadore school district was released from fiscal caution after improved budgets and a successful levy approval helped project limited deficits and positive fund balances — Auditor of State Keith Faber announced this on Sept.18. Record-Courier
- ➤ Muskaan Khanduri is a fashion design major from India studying at Kent State who gained international experience during a study tour in Florence where she worked with professor Sabine Strehl and visited a Zegna store—she now supports the campus as a resident assistant, mentor, and social media student assistant. Her experiences abroad and on campus strengthen her passion for the art and science of fashion. Kent State Today
- ➤ Award-winning costume designer Paul Tazewell visited Kent State on Sept. 18 to meet with fashion students and share his advice on design while discussing his work on Wicked — he met with theatre students on Sept. 19 and later led a public conversation at Cartwright Hall. Kent State Today
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Ohio Department of Transportation is asking for public comments on a $14.7 million project to fully reconstruct 13.5 miles of U.S. 224 from SR 532 to the Waterloo Road intersection in Atwater. Construction will take place in 2028—traffic detours will be set up to ensure access for local residents and emergency services. Record-Courier

- ➤ Berkshire volleyball team swept Rootstown last Thursday in Burton with scores of 25-16, 25-7, 25-21 to remain undefeated at 7-0, 2-0 in the conference. Coach Joan Prots said the offense—boosted by senior libero Delana Kellogg—set a strong pace, and the team will host its annual tournament today at 9 a.m. Weekly Villager
- ➤ Mogadore quarterback Maddox Smith threw a game-winning touchdown pass to Collin Hendrickson with 1:50 remaining, giving his team a tight 21-18 win over Ellet. The victory boosts Mogadore's season as they look forward to upcoming games. Record-Courier
- ➤ Portage County high school football Week 5 games were covered with previews and live scores—Ellet played Mogadore on Friday night—and teams submitted box scores for the roundup. Record-Courier
- ➤ The Crestwood Red Devils beat Beachwood 44—6 yesterday at Bison Stadium to get their first win of the season by scoring many unanswered points in the first quarter. Coach Jack D’Amato said the win ended their slow start and gave the team confidence before hosting Brooklyn for a crossover game Friday at 7 p.m. Weekly Villager
- ➤ In Portage County high school football Week 5, Luke McGovern scored two touchdowns to lead Aurora to a 14—0 win over Revere while Rootstown, Crestwood and Streetsboro also won their games. The teams posted strong offensive plays—Rootstown outpaced its opponent and Streetsboro saw four scores from Janiere Cook—as they improved their records. Record-Courier
