  • Windham Library will host an outdoor workshop on October 11 where six participants learn to upcycle black t-shirts into unique camouflage prints using foraged leaves and bleach gel. The session runs from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. — it will be rescheduled if precipitation occurs.  Weekly Villager

  • Costco recalled several products in September due to safety concerns—Kirkland Signature prosecco for explosive bottles, Rolling Pin Dubai chocolate for mislabeling wheat as gluten, ahi tuna wasabi poke for listeria, Oster countertop ovens for burn risks and Jimmy Dean sausage items for wood particles—and Ohio customers are urged to return them for a refund.  Record-Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • On September 15, the James A. Garfield Historical Society held a meeting that discussed the return of the time capsule rock — plans to place Crane’s crane in its garden, technical issues with replacing metalwork at the Maple Ave cemetery, and updates to projects including a summer intern initiative with high school students and revised sign-out procedures. The board reviewed bylaws, opened committee memberships, welcomed new member Candy Hardesty and vice president Cindy Sheehan, and noted a donation from Thrivent.  Weekly Villager

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ohio police agencies are forbidden to use ticket or arrest quotas to evaluate or discipline officers under a new law that went into effect on Sept. 30. Lawmakers said the measure is intended to strengthen public trust by letting officers use their judgment and report quota practices to the attorney general for investigation.  Record-Courier

  • Roosevelt girls soccer junior Audrey Haines talked about how she scored a game-tying goal against Aurora and was happy to be back with the Rough Riders—she said her goal kept the game close—and she will work hard all season.  Record-Courier
