  • Akron-based FirstEnergy announced plans to boost its system peak load from 33.5 gigawatts to 48.5 by 2035 to support data center growth—CEO Brian Tierney said the company will protect customers by holding developers responsible for the added investment. It reported higher third-quarter earnings and awaits a decision from PUCO by year's end.  Record-Courier
  • Krazy Bins closed its Medina store on Oct. 23 because the small space and low foot traffic did not support its bin-pricing model—stores in Kent, Parma and Toledo remain open while owner Noah Leavitt is looking at other Ohio cities for future locations.  Record-Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Liberty Prosser, a Kent State graduate with dual BA degrees in sociology and criminology, has begun her master's in criminology and now works as a graduate assistant for competitive sports. She gained important experience as a victim advocate at Hope and Healing Survivor Resource Center—insights that fuel her plans as she trains for a 10K in November.  Kent State Today

  • At Kenneth W. Lohr Field today, Field Falcons began their season finale with a 56 yard touchdown drive that put them up 8 to 0 with 7:32 left in the first quarter. Ravenna Ravens, led by senior quarterback C.J. Ross, will try to rally as Field builds their early advantage.  Record-Courier
  • Portage County high school football was highlighted in Week 10 with live scores and game previews; reporter Jonah L. Rosenblum provided live coverage of the Ravenna-Field game.
