- ➤ At the 2025 Bowman Breakfast on Oct.29, Kent State University hosted Asad Khan (CEO of Kent Displays) who spoke about his journey from Pakistan and his rise in the community. He said that bringing different ideas helps Kent grow (220 people attended) and showed how the university and the city work together to build a better future. Kent State Today
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The government shutdown may cut off SNAP benefits on November 1 if it continues past Halloween—Ohio has set aside $25 million for food aid to help low-income families. State data shows 1.45 million Ohioans receive monthly SNAP payments while counties report average benefits from $148 to $181 per month. Record-Courier
- ➤ The Portage County NAACP invites church members in Ravenna to join its 'Souls to the Polls' march on Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. at United Church of Christ—participants will walk to the Board of Elections to support free and fair voting. Record-Courier

- ➤ On November 22, the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Portage County will host the International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day event at 5982 Rhodes Rd in Kent from 12-2 p.m.—participants will view a documentary on grief, paint flower pots and join a discussion, with walk-ins welcome and pre-registration encouraged. - ➤ Teva Pharmaceuticals and the FDA recalled over 580,000 bottles of a blood pressure medicine because it may contain a chemical that can raise cancer risk. Health officials say nearly half of Ohio adults have high blood pressure and advise patients to check their lot numbers and talk with their pharmacist and doctor. Record-Courier
