Portage County Sheriff's Office is collecting donations of non-perishable food and essential items like unused toys, baby items, blankets, toiletries and winter apparel until Dec.
23—items can be dropped off in secure bins in the office lobby at 8240 Infirmary Road in Shalersville, with food sent to local pantries and non-food items helping area residents in need.

On December 9, David Hassler, executive director of the Wick Poetry Center, will host a Tap Talk at North Water Brewing Company (101 Crain Ave., Kent) to discuss his new anthology 'The Nature of Our Times' from the Poets for Science initiative.
Sponsored by the Kent Historical Society at 7 p.m., the event will feature poems, videos, photos, and artwork that highlight America’s natural wonders.

Jilliane Pugh, a Kent native who grew up in Stow, opened Embrace Pink at 3274 Kent Road, Suite 103—offering specialized care products, personalized mastectomy fittings, and lifestyle coaching for women fighting breast cancer.
The store held its ribbon-cutting ceremony in May and plans to launch its nonprofit arm, Pink with Purpose, in January.
