CULTURE NEWS

  • Lesley Sickle, Main Street Kent's marketing and branding manager, won the Spirit of Main Street Award on Dec. 17 in Canton at the Heritage Ohio conference. She was honored for her creative leadership in boosting downtown Kent through art installations and community events.  Record-Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Starting fall 2026, Kent State's College of Nursing will launch a Foundational Entry concentration that lets students enroll without high school math, chemistry, or biology courses. The program, which is expected to add over 125 first-year nursing students annually, plans a simulation lab expansion (costing $6 million) due summer 2027.  Record-Courier
  • On Dec. 16, the Ohio Department of Higher Education audited Kent State’s educator preparation and gave its preservice teacher literacy coursework a perfect 100% score, with no recommendations for improvement. The audit reviewed 30 courses and praised collaborative efforts across campuses (Kent and Regional).  Kent State Today
