  • Elite Pharmacy acquired Ravenna’s Medical Arts Pharmacy at 6693 North Chestnut Street on Dec. 1 — the location now features a blue interior and new system to notify patients, and a grand opening is planned for January.  Weekly Villager

CULTURE NEWS

  • Phil Kline’s Unsilent Night, a mobile sound sculpture, is set for Dec. 28 at Hometown Bank Plaza in downtown Kent; it was postponed on Dec. 14 because of severe cold. Community members may gather at 5:45 p.m. for free hot cocoa (weather permitting) before the event starts at 6:15 p.m.  Record-Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A Kent State student brightened Michael Hawkins (a Kent State alumnus and head librarian) when she handed him a kind note at the Hub on Thursday, Dec. 18. Hawkins said the gesture lifted his spirits and highlighted the caring campus community.  Kent State Today
  • Kent school board appointed newly elected member P.J. Errera to fill the unexpired term left by Tiera Moore’s resignation (Oct. 31). The board also named Alicia R. Crowe as president and Rebekah Wright Kulis as vice president for the rest of this year.  Record-Courier

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Experts advise Kent residents to install owl nesting boxes now because winter roost spots help owls like barn, barred, and Eastern screech safely nest. Guidelines recommend mounting boxes in various settings (trees, barns, or posts) at species-specific heights.  Record-Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Menards will pay $4.25 million in a multi-state settlement over deceptive advertising that showed an 11% rebate as an instant discount instead of future credit. The home improvement chain must update its rebate terms and online system within 90 days & vow no price gouging during emergencies.  Record-Courier

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • With harsh weather keeping many Kent residents indoors today, a local guide offers a range of winter activities to do at home, including DIY crafts, cooking, and organizing tips (such as making candles or reorganizing closets) to stay busy and cozy.  Record-Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • Kent State University announced that women's wrestling will join varsity sports as the 20th program with competition scheduled for 2027. The addition expands athletic opportunities on campus.  Kent State Today
  • Berkshire wrestling team finished as runners-up at the Russ Ward Memorial Tournament at Cardinal High School last Saturday + they scored 179.5 points with champions senior Danny Tiller and freshman Alex Sustin winning their bouts. The team will compete at the Solon Comet Classic on Dec. 22 at 11 a.m.  Weekly Villager
