  • The Portage Foundation awarded more than $58,000 to 30 local nonprofits today to support programs in education + health and other areas in Portage County. The grants will help strengthen community services and improve quality of life.  Weekly Villager

  • Junior Cohen Richardson said Southeast basketball showed calm under pressure after a 65-53 win at Rootstown on Dec. 27, reflecting the team’s resilience in a tough game.  Record-Courier
  • The Garfield G-Men wrestlers earned two individual titles and a fourth-place finish at the Division III Classic held at Waterloo High School in Atwater Township last weekend. They will compete on Dec. 29 at 9 a.m. at the Brecksville Holiday Tournament in Brecksville-Broadview Heights.  Weekly Villager
  • Roosevelt boys basketball beat Ravenna 54-48 Dec. 26 at James L. Coll Gymnasium after withstanding repeated rallies. The Rough Riders, coming off five narrow losses, relied on veteran plays from EJ Churn and Gavin Peeps (each making key moves) to secure the win.  Record-Courier
  • Berkshire Badgers girls' basketball beat Crestwood 39-24 last Friday in Burton to climb to first place in their conference division, driven by key 3-point baskets from senior guard Julia Young. The team now prepares to face Cardinal at 7 p.m. Saturday while Crestwood hosts Aurora at 4:45 p.m.  Weekly Villager
