EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bio-Med Science Academy will combine its Shalersville and Ravenna campuses by moving kindergarten through sixth-grade classes to Kent State's Michael Schwartz Center (800 E. Summit St) in fall 2027. The move brings 600 students and 50 staff members together in one state-of-the-art facility to ease logistics and boost learning.  Record-Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Jan. 1, Ohio will raise its minimum wage to $11 for non-tipped workers and $5.50 for tipped workers (a 30-cent and 15-cent increase) as rates tied to inflation will affect workers in 2026.  Record-Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ravenna beat Akron Coventry 53-47 at James L. Coll Gymnasium on Saturday, Dec. 27. Coach Justin Rahim said his squad used a late 5-0 run and strong defense to snap a four-game losing streak and will host Kent Roosevelt Friday at 7 p.m.  Weekly Villager
  • 2024 Crestwood graduate Charlie Schweickert has returned to coach boys basketball at his alma mater, serving as both varsity assistant and freshmen head coach. He will mentor players and strengthen the program while balancing his studies in sports broadcasting.  Weekly Villager
