EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kent State University was confirmed as the highest-ranked public school in northern Ohio—earning a national ranking of 129 in the new U.S. News Best Colleges report—and its undergraduate engineering programs ranked among the top 50, reinforcing its commitment to high-quality, accessible education.  Kent State Today
  • U.S. News released its 2026 college rankings Tuesday — the University of Akron ranked No. 373 in National Universities and Kent State ranked No. 232 while other Ohio schools such as Ohio State and Case Western Reserve received higher marks. The report used over 15 factors such as graduation rates and teacher ratios to evaluate academic quality.  Record-Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Motorists on Interstate 76 westbound in Edinburg Township will have one lane available for bridge repairs from 7 p.m. Sept. 24—7 p.m. Sept. 26—according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.  Record-Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Browns re-signed local receiver Luke Floriea to their practice squad on Sept. 23 after he recovered from a hamstring injury that ended his preseason play. He is a Mentor High and Kent State product—his hometown ties made him a fan favorite.  Record-Courier
  • Portage County football teams, including Mogadore, Rootstown, Garfield and Streetsboro, show strong postseason chances as early computer ratings reveal promising records after five weeks—Mogadore stands at 4—1 while Rootstown remains unbeaten. Other teams like Aurora and Roosevelt need key wins in upcoming games to boost their standings, and Garfield and Streetsboro hope to earn home games and first-round byes with crucial wins.  Record-Courier
  • Field boys soccer junior Nathan Fulks talked about his game-winning goal at Streetsboro—explaining how Wyatt Rahe’s strong throws helped his team win. He shared his thoughts after the match to show the skill that played a key role in the game.  Record-Courier
